Jasmine Herman in a PLACE A couple is stunned by a very “cheesy” proposal as they search for the holiday home of their dreams.
The Channel 4 host met retired couple Pauline and Peter when they discovered a property in Lanzarote to share with their 15 grandchildren.
Jasmine, 45, had to work looking for a spacious vacation home to fit Pauline and Peter’s list of needs within a modest budget of £350,000.
The couple met in Lanzarote and spent seven months of the year there, hoping to stay there permanently if found the right place.
Their list of demands included at least three bedrooms, two bathrooms and a private pool as well as outdoor space.
Jasmine began by moving them into a semi-detached villa, which budgeted over £10,000, but met all their demands.
Sadly, the couple was not immediately impressed as Pauline told the expert the house was “fine” as he insisted they wanted a separate property.
But he admitted that he loved the oversized rooms, especially the living room that had enough room for “an extra apartment.”
The second home also did not live up to expectations as Pauline and Peter felt the master bedroom was too small for them.
The third property – which was under budget of £330,000 – came with a private pool, but did not impress them in the same way.
Pauline described how it looked “outdated” compared to the first property, which was becoming “hard to beat”.
After seeing two more villas, Pauline and Peter were still keen to make an offer and try their luck on the first villa.
But Jasmine was shocked when the couple cheekily suggested they would offer £50,000 less than the asking price.
“We’d like to make a cheeky offer,” said Peter, to which the shocked Jasmine promptly replied: “Oh, how cheeky?”
“£315,000,” answered Peter. “I know it’s a significant amount of money less than I asked for by using that as a starting point.”
Jasmine made the offer to the agents, who quickly retracted that it had been rejected by the current owner of the property.
The couple negotiated back and forth with the owner until they came to an agreement – a settlement costing £349,000.
