TORONTO – Ontario’s education minister says nearly 80 percent of school workers are confirmed to have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
This is roughly the percentage of vaccinations observed in eligible populations across the province.
The government has said that employers in high-risk settings for COVID-19, including schools and hospitals, require workers to be vaccinated or routinely tested against the virus before coming to work.
Some organizations, such as the Toronto District School Board and some hospitals, have strict policies that include possible termination.
On Monday, 146 new school-related cases were reported, including 11 staff members, and five schools are currently closed due to the outbreak.
Green Party leader Mike Schreiner says an 80 percent vaccination rate isn’t enough when children under 12 can’t get themselves vaccinated.
