The president of the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) rebuked members of the Democratic “squad” for defending Israel’s Iron Dome defense system from a massive spending bill.

ADL President Jonathan Greenblatt tweeted, responding to an op-ed published by The Times of Israel titled “The Immorality of Democratic ‘Progressives’,” tweeting, “It is unconscionable that a small group of members of Congress – the so-called ‘Squad’ – demanded that the House leadership separate before approving funding for Israel’s Iron Dome [continuing resolution]”

Democrats strip $1B for Israel’s iron dome from government funding bill

“The Iron Dome is a defensive system designed to protect civilians. Innocent people of all races and religions – Jews, Muslims, Christians, Druze and others – depend on the Iron Dome for protection when terrorists like Hamas + Hezbollah Groups launch thousands of rockets at them,” Greenblatt wrote on Wednesday. “It’s a shame the squad succeeded. It encourages Hamas and Hezbollah and other enemies of peace. For on-demand MOCs, see below. Each intercepted rocket was fired indiscriminately toward civilian centers with one goal: the brazen killing of innocents.”

Greenblatt predicted that “shameful acts” by progressive lawmakers would “spur further campaigns by anti-Zionist activists” as well as incite anti-Semitic violence such as happened in the midst of the Israel-Gaza conflict last spring.

“Make no mistake – human lives are at stake. Lawmakers are promising action and we ask Congress to follow through. Both Democrats and Republicans have delayed this funding. We’ve got the Iron Dome.” Urgent bipartisan effort is needed to fund the U.S.,” Greenblatt added.

“Squad”, which includes Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D.N.Y., Ilhan Omar, D-Min., and Rashida Tlaib, D-Mich., were able to clear a proposed $1 billion to continue funding Iron. Dome.

However, many moderate Democrats, including Michigan Representative Alyssa Slotkin, criticized the Progressive victory.

“The Iron Dome is a purely *defensive* system – it protects civilians when hundreds of rockets are fired at population centers. Whatever your thoughts on the Israel-Pal conflict, using a system that has Hundreds, if not thousands, of lives have been saved as the political chit is problematic,” Slotkin tweeted on Tuesday. Willing to do – anything – belonging to the State of Israel; It is devoid of substance and irresponsible.”

On Wednesday, House Democrats introduced a separate bill that would provide $1 billion in funding for the Iron Dome.
