Production on “Rust” is halted indefinitely after Baldwin discharged a prop gun during production Thursday at Bonanza Creek Ranch near Santa Fe, new Mexico, resulting in the death of Hutchins, 42, and injuries swollen, 48.

Hutchins was taken to hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Souza who was injured in the collarbone area was taken by ambulance to a medical centre. He was discharged from the hospital on Friday morning.

“The entire cast and crew are completely devastated by today’s tragedy, and we send our deepest condolences to Helena’s family and loved ones,” a spokesperson for Rust Movies Productions LLC said in a statement obtained by Deadline.

“We have halted production on the film for an undetermined period and are cooperating fully with Santa Fe Police Department investigation,” the statement continued. “We will provide counseling services to everyone involved with the film as we work to process this horrific incident.”

According to the Internet Movie Database website, the film is about a 13-year-old boy who is left to care for himself and his younger brother after the death of his parents in Kansas in the 1880s. The teen runs away with his long-estranged grandfather (played by Baldwin) after the boy is sentenced to death for the accidental murder of a local rancher.

Police arrived on the New Mexico set of "Rust" on Thursday after a woman was killed and a man was injured.

As indicated in the statement, the authorities have started an investigation into the incident.

“Mr. Baldwin was questioned by investigators and released,” said a representative for the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office, per the outlet. “No arrests or charges have been made.”

He added: “This investigation is open and active. No charges have been filed in relation to this incident. Interviews of witnesses by the detectives are on.”

Production on "Rust" has been halted indefinitely.

A news release from the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office said the deputies were dispatched to the set at around 1:50 p.m. local time, and the call indicated that one person had been shot.
