His controversial comments were the subject of conversation on This Morning as hosts Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary threw their two cents.

Ellison, who has been an outspoken advocate in the body positivity movement, said of the comments, terming them “disgusting.”

“It’s absolutely terrible,” Ellison began during a segment with Matthew Wright and Julia Hartley-Brewer.

She revealed that she never heard Steve on the radio, but “it really disgusted me”.

Matthew and Julia were reluctant to slam Steve, with Matthews stating that free speech should be “within certain limits”.

Julia added after revealing that she worked with Steve that he “deserved to say” what he wanted and didn’t want people to be “censored”.

But Dermot questions Tilly’s mental health and the effect his comments have on those affected.

“We’re living in different times,” Alison said.

“Yes she made that comment, but that comment has gone to millions, it’s a 19-year-old girl at the end of the day and it will have a huge impact on her.”

Yesterday, Steve said: “She can’t dance well. I’m already bored with her. She’s a chubby little thing, right, have you noticed? Maybe her dad is cooking, I must imagine.”

Tilly responded with a lengthy note posted on her Instagram.

Tilly, who is Chef Gordon Ramsay’s daughter, quickly retaliated and called on LBC Radio’s Steve to remind him that “words can hurt”.

She wrote: “I try not to read and listen to comments and negativity.

“However, a recent call by a 67-year-old man to a national radio station is a step too far.

“Steve please feel free to voice your opinion, however I draw the line on commenting on my appearance. It’s a great shame that someone is trying to turn such a positive experience into a negative one.

“This isn’t the first and certainly won’t be the last comment about my appearance. But please remember words can hurt and at the end of the day I’m only 19.

“I understand that being in the public eye has its own ramifications and I’ve known about it from a young age. However, I will not tolerate people who comment publicly and judge someone’s weight and appearance- It’s okay to check the color.”

Tilly, who is the youngest contestant on the new series and one of the youngest in the show’s 17-year history, received support on social media.

Dad Gordon did not comment but other members of the Ramsay clan voiced their support. Sister Holly, 21, wrote, “Very well said x #bekind”, while older sister Megan, 23, said, “Love you tills”.

After the brutal taunt, stern celebs and pro dancers have rallied around her, including Ugo Moni.

The rugby player questioned Steve’s audacity to feel “comfortable enough” to judge Tilly based on his size.

“The fact that what @steveallenshow said on LBC is not the only issue here IMO,” Yugo tweeted.

“The wider societal problem here is that people feel comfortable enough to check a young woman’s appearance on national radio – why is this relevant?”
