Amazon is joining a growing list of major companies that are looking to increase their workforce ahead of the holiday season to meet the unprecedented surge in demand.


The shopping giant, in particular, is looking to fill 150,000 seasonal jobs nationwide, which will fill multiple roles within Amazon’s operations network. This may include stowing, picking, packing and shipping, according to Amazon.

To encourage applicants, the company said all of its jobs, even seasonal positions, are privy to sign-on bonuses of up to $3,000.

Amazon also said the average starting salary for all of its jobs is $18 per hour, with an additional $3 per hour “based on shifts in multiple locations.” Although the positions are seasonal, Amazon said new employees will also have the opportunity to transition to a more permanent position at the company.

The states with the most seasonal designations available include Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, and Texas. Virginia.

Alicia Boller Davis, Amazon’s senior vice president of global customer fulfillment, said the additional roles would ease the pressure on full-time employees.

“Our seasonal recruiting helps us deliver on our promises to customers, while also providing flexibility to our full-time employees during busy periods,” Davis said.

The new positions come after the company had already announced plans to hire more than 40,000 new corporate and technical jobs and 125,000 full- and part-time fulfillment and transportation jobs.
