The 2022 Acura RDX sports its debut as a mid-cycle that sees major technology and safety enhancements along with refined styling. The 2022 RDX will arrive at dealerships across the country in November.
The RDX has been the best-selling SUV in its segment for the past 15 years and the refinements that Acura has made are designed to cement that position.
For the 2022 model year, Acura will sell the RDX in nine variants. The RDX base models, RDX with Technology Package and RDX with Technology Package A-SPC are available in front or all-wheel drive. The new RDX A-Spec and RDX PMC variant with Advance package is available with all-wheel drive only. Pricing is yet to be announced.
Modifications to the exterior are inspired by the 2022 Acura MDX, which was redesigned and marks the start of the fourth generation of the model. The grille is now thinner with chrome surround on most RDX variants (the A-spec models are available in gloss black, which matches the color of their lower intake, door, window and headlight trim). It gets more air intake and a new front fascia designed to make the RDX appear wider.
LED fog lights with chrome surround are now standard on the RDX A-Spec and Advanced Package models.
Rear fascia changes and new rectangular dual exhaust finishers make the back unique. The RDX A-Spec models get gloss black large-diameter round exhaust finishers and black taillight surrounds with a more aggressive fascia.
All RDX models roll on 19- or 20-inch alloy wheels. The 19-inch design has a 10-spoke design. Opting for the Technology package gives them a machined face and pewter gray accents. The RDX model with the Advance package gets five-spoke machined 19-inch wheels with the RDX A-spec SUV, new 15-spoke wheels with the Advance package.
Acura will sell the 2022 RDX in a variety of exterior colors including the new Liquid Carbon Metallic. Equipped with technology and advanced package, Phantom Violet Pearl paint job is offered on RDX model.
New for 2022, all Advance Package models get power folding side mirrors and an advanced damper system, designed to provide a smooth ride.
All RDXs come with a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine that makes 272 horsepower. It is mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission. Paddle shifters are standard. All-wheel drive is available.
Acura has made the throttle and braking system of the 2022 RDX more responsive than those of the outgoing model. The SUV now has four different drive modes: Normal, Comfort, Sport and Snow.
The interiors of the RDX have been changed to make it cool and sporty. Active noise control technology works to keep road and engine noise at bay, helping at low idle speeds for the engine. Additionally, the front door, dashboard and D-pillar get new insulation. Models equipped with the technology package also get new, thicker carpets.
Moving up to the Advance package, buyers get the quietest RDX ever built with additional sound deadening insulation on the dashboard, under the hood and above the drivetrain tunnel. The rear doors get acoustic glass and additional insulation while the cargo area has additional cargo compartments with sound insulation and the liftgate has soundproofing materials.
Like the 2022 MDX, the new RDX comes with genuine aluminum and open-pored wood trim.
The A-spec model gets a unique flat-bottom steering wheel and metal trim with a “Dark Y” pattern on the doors, dashboard and center console. Ultrasound inserts are available on the seats, dash and doors.
A new Orchid leather interior option is available exclusively on the A-Spec with the Advance package.
The compact SUV’s standard equipment list includes wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a USB-C charging port and Amazon Alexa. A digital speedometer is now part of the instrument cluster.
A wireless smartphone charging pad and LED ambient lighting are available as part of the technology package. Advance Package buyers get added remote engine start and 12V power outlet in the cargo area.
The highlight of the SUV is the new one.
For 2022, Acura offers RDX standard blind spot monitoring technology that extends nearly 100 feet behind the vehicle, four times further than before.
Standard front and rear sensors on the Technology Package model allow the Acura to offer front and rear low-speed braking.
Each RDX comes with AcuraWatch, a suite of driver assistance and safety technology that includes forward collision alerts and rear seatbelt reminders with traffic sign recognition, emergency braking and pedestrian detection.
The rear outboard seatbelts of the SUV now feature pre-tensioning and load-limiting technology designed to reduce the rigors of a crash.
