The eagerly anticipated reboot of Sex and the City and Just Like That… hits screens on Thursday – with fans ready to witness a major heartache when a main character dies as well as the series as a whole. A new awakening.

The return came 23 years after the original TV series debuted – and 11 years after the second film, with Sarah Jessica Parker, playing Carrie Bradshaw, starring Cynthia Nixon as Miranda Hobbes, and Kristin Davis as Charlotte York, all returning without Kim Cattrall’s Samantha Jones.

While the show loses an original cast, it also includes Sarah Ramirez (Che Diaz), Nicole Ari Parker (Lisa Todd Wedley), Karen Pittman (Dr. Nya Wallace) and Sarita Choudhury (Seema Patel) joining the ladies. Three new ones are obtained.

There are many nods to glamour, sass, political correctness and sensitivity in the first and second episodes – although we soon leave Carrie as the widower after her husband, Mr. Big, dies of a heart attack at the end of the first episode. While the second follows the funeral plans and final goodbye (and subtle nods to Samantha).

Back! The reboot of Sex and the City and Just Like That… hit screens Thursday, starring Sarah Jessica Parker, Carrie Bradshaw, Cynthia Nixon, Miranda Hobbes and Kristin Davis as Charlotte York.

episode one

The first episode begins at fictional New York hotspot Klee, where Carrie is waiting with Charlotte and Miranda. ‘Remember when we were legally required to stand six feet from each other?’ Carrie asks, as Miranda says she remembers it, as the crowd walks through them.

They recognize an old friend, Bitsy Von Muffling (Julie Halston), who thinks about how they should greet each other, post-COVID.

She asks where the ‘Fourth Musketeers’ is, referring to Samantha Jones (Kim Cattrall) who, as Charlotte says, ‘is no longer with us.’

Bitsy is deeply saddened, thinking that Samantha has passed away, but Miranda says she is not dead and Carrie confirms she is in London.

Pain: In the first and second episodes we see Carrie leaving as a widower after her husband Mr. Big dies of a heart attack at the end of the first episode, while the second plans the funeral and the final goodbye ( and subtle hints to Samantha).

Bitsy says she assumed someone she hasn’t seen in such a long time either died or ‘left and moved to Palm Beach.’

Miranda said she moved to the UK for work, which as Bitsy says, ‘sexy sirens in the ’60s are still viable there.’

As the group walks into the restaurant, Bitsy leaves and Carrie’s table is finally called. As they peruse the menu, Miranda says she stepped on one of her son Brady’s condoms, now that her destination is a ‘minefield’.

Carrie quickly changes the subject, which surprises Miranda and Charlotte, but Carrie just says ‘life is too short.’ They all joke about their age and Charlotte says she misses Miranda’s red hair.

Listen! She asks where the 'Fourth Musketeers' is, referring to Samantha Jones (Kim Cattrall), as Charlotte says she is 'no longer with us'.

Carrie arrives at her and Big’s apartment – called Heaven of Fifth – where she locks lips with her husband and jokes about his fishmonger trying to oversell salmon. – Big ya jokes: ‘I remember when you used to have sweaters in your oven’.

Getting bubbly…
