Mr Trump was speaking on Sean Hannity’s primetime show on Fox News on Thursday when he was questioned about the COVID-19 testing protocol for refugees. He made several baseless claims about immigrants and even spoke of conspiracies against the US by other countries.

“There’s one more thing that nobody talks about,” the former president said.

“So we have hundreds of thousands of people flowing out of Haiti. Haiti has a tremendous AIDS problem. AIDS is a step forward. AIDS is a real bad problem.”

“So there are hundreds of thousands of people coming into our country and if you look at the statistics and you look at the numbers, if you just look at — take a look at what’s happening in Haiti, a tremendous problem with AIDS. ,” Mr Trump said.

“Many of them will probably have AIDS and they are coming into our country,” he said. “We don’t do anything about it. We let everyone in. It’s like a death wish for our country, like a death wish!”

Mr Trump also said dozens of countries are “emptying their prisons” by intentionally sending newly released prisoners to the US.

“I hear it is 50 countries! They are emptying their prisons in the United States,” claimed Mr. Trump. “Their prisons, some of the hardest people on earth, are being dumped in the United States. Because they don’t want them. They don’t want to take care of him for the next 40 years.”

The comments triggered criticism online, with some users pointing to his past racist statements, while many also pointed to his own administration’s inability to deal with Covid.

“Not kidding. Trump is bragging about people coming from Haiti and “they all have AIDS” but he doesn’t mind that they killed over 600,000 Americans with Covid,” said Twitter user Tim Faulkner. wrote.

“I really try not to share much about the 30 emails I get from Trump (mostly conspiracy and just asking for money) but holy crap here he is on the harshest stereotypes aimed at Haitian people from 30+ years Coming back first,” wrote WLRN reporter Danny Rivero.

“Trump is attempting to take advantage of xenophobia, homophobia and racism to re-ignite his base. Declaring a very serious threat to America today due to illegal Haitians crossing the border with AIDS. To Mexicans Remember his passion for making rapists… a one-trick sociopath,” wrote a user named Mike Mann.

This is not the first time the former president has made racist and anti-refugee remarks. Earlier in 2017, new York Times The report quoted two sources as saying Mr Trump, at a briefing with his advisers, said the 15,000 thousand Haitians sent to the United States by that country’s government “all had AIDS”.

The White House denied the claim and said that the then President, Mr. Trump, did not make that remark.

In 2018, Washington Post reported that Mr Trump wanted immigrants from countries like Norway rather than “sh**hole countries” when asked about Haiti.

“Why are we having all these people** coming here from all over the countries?” The former president reportedly said, when asked about migrants from Haiti, El Salvador and African countries as part of a bipartisan immigration bill. He then suggested that the US should accept more immigrants from places like Norway.
