Actress Anne Heche was reportedly taken to hospital in critical condition after a collision that left her vehicle “engulfed in flames”.
The incident happened on Friday morning near Ms Heche’s home in the Mar Vista area of Los Angeles.
The 53-year-old actress is a former partner of US talk show host Ellen DeGeneres, and is known for films including Donnie Brasco, Cedar Rapids and Psycho.
Images and video footage obtained by US media outlet TMZ showed Ms Heche driving a blue Mini Cooper, which was later severely damaged at the scene.
According to the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) the vehicle hit a two-story house and “ignited a massive fire”.
“It took 59 firefighters 65 minutes to reach, contain and completely extinguish the flames within the heavily damaged structure,” said a LAFD report.
“A female adult (was) found inside the vehicle has been taken to a regional hospital by LAFD paramedics in critical condition.”
The LAFD also confirmed to the PA news agency that the vehicle had driven 30 feet into the dwelling but the occupant fled without injury.
The building was left “uninhabited”, spokesman Brian Humphrey said.
Heche began dating DeGeneres in 1997 but split in 2000.
