Anne Rice gets another AMC show, this one about witches

AMC is betting on horror queen Anne Rice. Famous Former New Orleans Writer’s “Mayfair Witches” Series getting customized In a TV show for AMC. This marks the second Rice series to be adapted on the network, as “Interview with the Vampire” will also hit the small screen.

Based on a trilogy of supernatural novels first published in 1990, the “Mayfair Witches” series will be eight episodes, written and produced by Esta Spalding and Michelle Ashford (“Masters of Sex”). The story follows a young neurosurgeon who learns that he is the heir to a family of witches, who have been haunted by a sinister presence for several generations.


“2022 will be the biggest year ever for original programming … and we’re literally over the moon that it will now include the first two series in the Anne Rice universe built around the stories and characters that have garnered millions of fans around the world,” Dan McDermott, president of AMC Networks Entertainment and AMC Studios, said in a statement in the press release announcing the show.

“We’re also extremely fortunate to have talented storytellers like Asta and Michelle guiding this adaptation, which will follow the first season of ‘Anne Rice Interview with the Vampire’ later next year.”

Casting for “Mayfair Witches” has not been announced. The 1994 film “Interview with the Vampire” featured Brad Pitt as Louis and Tom Cruise as the vampire Lestat. The show will feature Jacob Anderson (aka Gray Worm from “Game of Thrones”) as Louie and Sam Reed as Lestat.

Both “The Mayfair Witches” and “Interview with the Vampire” will air on AMC in 2022 at an unspecified date.
