Apple Music offers half-price subscription if you only use your voice

Apple has launched a new “plan” for its music streaming service — offering it half the price if you ever talk to it.

The subscription – referred to as the “Voice Plan” – costs $4.99 in the US and the same amount in pounds. It will be offered in many countries around the world.

Typically, Apple Music costs $9.99 for individuals, or $14.99 for a family plan, which allows multiple people to use it simultaneously.

But the new subscription halves that price, as long as people only use it through Siri. Members will still be able to ask for specific things – such as artists – but will have to do so with their own voice.

As such, they won’t have access to the normal version of the Apple Music app, where users can search for names or flick through albums as usual.

The Voice plan will be available on devices that can talk to Siri – not just iPhones and AirPods, but HomePod Mini as well.

The new voice plan was introduced by Zane Lowe, who also revealed that the company will be offering new playlists created for specific activities, from hiking to sleeping. All of them can be asked through Siri.

It announced the new plans during an event that also saw the launch of the new, updated Mac.
