The new iPhones were released on Friday and some users quickly discovered a minor problem with the device: It was recently unable to take advantage of a minor feature that allowed people to continue to wear masks indoors. Which makes life easier.

The tool, introduced in April, allows users to unlock their iPhone with their Apple Watch. If the phone detects that its owner’s face is covered, it will ping the watch, and if it is nearby and unlocked, the phone will also be unlocked itself.

But when users came to set up their new iPhone 13, they found that the feature was not working properly, and instead threw up error messages saying that the phone was “unable to communicate with Apple Watch”, or similarly. The rest of the connection between the iPhone and Apple Watch works normally.

Now Apple has identified the issues in a support document published on its website, as spotted by Macrumors. It also said that this will be “fixed in an upcoming software update”.

For now, the company advises affected users to turn off the feature instead. This can be done by going to the Settings app and clicking on the “Face ID & Passcode” option.

Apple Watch problems aren’t the only teething problem affecting the new iPhone. Last week, developers also found that their apps seemed unable to take advantage of the higher refresh rate on the iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max — one of its most hyped features — leading to concerns that the feature could be used by third parties. will not work in Apps.

Since then, Apple has confirmed that the feature is available to all developers, but they have to add a small piece of code to their app to make it clear that they want to use it.
