This evening, EastEnders fans were surprised to see Liam Butcher make an epic return to Albert Square — with Alfie Deegan playing original star James Ford.
Liam’s arrival came completely out of the blue as he claimed to be supportive of his sister, Tiffany, but it’s clear he’s not telling the whole story.
The character has not been seen on the BBC One soap since 2015, when he and Cindy Biel left for Germany with their newborn daughter, Beth.
And the bosses undoubtedly reprized the role after original actor James quit acting to become a producer last year.
The child star played Liam Butcher on EastEnders from 2008–2015.
He was part of some memorable stories, such as when he joined a gang in which he was arrested and stabbed to death by one of the other crew members.
Since leaving the show, the 24-year-old is now earning his salary working as a builder and it is a positive move for James, who received a lot of support from his fans in the comments.
An Insta photo of James had the caption “Bob the Builder”.
Brilliant builder James isn’t the only soap star to get a normal job after leaving the spotlight, as another EastEnders star Katie Jarvis was seen working as a security guard at a B&M store in Romford.
Former Hollyoaks star Gemma Merna, who played Carmen McQueen on the soap from 2006-2014, left acting to work as a yoga instructor and personal trainer.
Corey’s Martin Platt, played by Sean Wilson for 20 years from 1985-2005, left the acting scene to start a cheese-making business.
Tom Watt played the original cast of EastEnders, Lofty Holloway, but left the show in 1988 and became a sports journalist.
Liam is the son of former EastEnders characters Bianca Jackson and Ricky Butcher.
He’s back for a short time now – but viewers are yet to figure out why he’s returned…
