Barcelona are reportedly eyeing a sensational move to sign Kylian Mbappe on a free transfer next summer, despite his precarious financial situation.
In August, club president Joan Laporta revealed that Barca’s debt so far exceeds £1bn. Spanish Publications AS say on Friday that club sources have indicated they are weighing an offer for the Paris Saint-Germain striker.
The 22-year-old Mbappe is currently in the final year of his PSG contract and has yet to agree to the new terms, meaning he could be available on a free transfer next year.

Barcelona’s arch-rivals Real Madrid are the favorites to get Mbappe’s signing, but it now appears the Catalan club is going to try to enter the race.
As added Barca’s interest in getting a more lucrative deal from Madrid could be at least one card that Mbappe plays.
The publication adds that Barcelona believe that when their accounts are published next July, it will show that there is room for one of their landmark signatures in the summer transfer window.
But speaking in August, Laporta painted a very different picture of the club’s finances.
‘As of March 21, 2021, the debt was €1.35bn,’ he said. ‘The situation is dramatic, but we have good news.
“Based on our credibility and experience with the assets Barca have, our strategic plan makes this situation temporary.

‘I think in a couple of years the club’s economy will be healthy. We are not afraid at all. We are highly motivated and positive and morale is high. It is a big challenge but we have been able to overcome it.
But in the meantime, Barcelona’s squad have taken a pay cut while they had to let Lionel Messi go on a free transfer as they could no longer pay his wages.
Barcelona are currently seventh in the LaLiga standings and will take on Madrid on Sunday night in the first Clasico of the 2021-22 season.
