The White House said Wednesday that President Biden is withdrawing Trump-era executive orders that sought to ban new downloads of TikTok and WeChat — and ordering a Commerce Department review of security concerns posed by the popular app. are giving.

His new executive order directs the department to perform what officials describe as “evidence-based” analysis of transactions involving apps manufactured or supplied or controlled by China, Reuters reported.

Officials are most concerned about apps that collect users’ personality data or have ties to Chinese military or intelligence activities.

According to senior administration officials, the department will also make recommendations about how to protect Americans’ genetic and personal health information.

Former President Donald Trump’s administration had sought to bar new users from downloading Chinese-owned TikTok and WeChat apps and ban other tech transactions, which both platforms said would effectively block their use in the US.
