Ronan Simone Biles suffers from twisties and admits: I’m still too scared to do gymnastics.
The American superstar withdrew from five of his six finals at the Tokyo Olympics after an inflated vault routine distracted him.
Twisties are like yup to gymnasts and the 24-year-old talks about the mental pressure of competing on the biggest stages in the world.
Biles broke down in tears in an emotional interview with today’s program in America.
She said: “To do something that I’ve done forever and I haven’t been able to do it because of everything I’ve done is really crazy because I love this sport so much.
“It’s difficult. I’m sorry. And I don’t think people understand the magnitude of what I experience.
“But I’m proud of myself for going through everything I’ve gone through for so many years.”
Biles spoke of being abused in 2018 by USA Gymnastics team doctor Larry Nassar, who is now serving a life sentence in prison.
USA Gymnastics was heavily criticized for covering up Nassar’s hate crimes, which included the molestation of hundreds of women and girls.
Biles said: “Over the years, after so many emotions were suppressed and exposed on the global scene, I think it all came out.
“My body and my mind allowed me to suppress everything for so many years as it could take.
“And as soon as we stepped onto the Olympic scene, it decided it couldn’t do it anymore and it broke, and that’s what happens.
“And that’s why it’s so important to take care of your mental health and your mental health, so that something like this doesn’t happen.
“And I’m grateful that it wasn’t anyone else, and it was me, because I know I’m strong enough and I can be back on my feet and I’m going to be back on my feet with the right help.”
