Kali Mai One of the most awaited films of 2021, features an all-star cast of female actors performing incredible stunts. The Marvel film stars big-name actors like Scarlett Johansson, Rachel Weisz, and Florence Pugh, but also stars lesser-known stars like Ukrainian actor Olga Kurilenko.
Kurilenko, who starred in films quantum of Solace and Speed, plays the role of taskmaster in Kali Mai. As one of the film’s primary antagonists, she confronts Johansson in several scenes and is forced to engage in some intense action sequences.
However, even though many of Kurilenko’s scenes required vigorous physical maneuvers, many of them were not performed by him. She relied on several stunt doubles to execute her character’s more challenging moves and was required to wear a special suit throughout the film.
‘Black Widow’ Actor Olga Kurilenko Used Multiple Stunt Doubles for Her Taskmaster Role
Kurilenko elaborated on the many stunt doubles he worked in during the filming Kali Mai During a recent interview with The Associated Press.
“Usually, I have a stunt double who dubs me, and in this case, I had three or four,” Kurilenko said. “There were so many people because the Taskmaster is so complex and has so many different skills, that more than one person can do them all.”
He needed multiple stuntmen for his character’s multiple fighting styles.
Since the Taskmaster has such a unique set of combat skills, it was too much to ask a stuntman to master them all. Marvel producers hired multiple stuntmen to execute impressive moves instead of relying on one.
“They had to get different individuals for each specific skill because there isn’t just one stuntman who can do all those moves, which is extraordinary, but it’s great because the character is so powerful,” Kurilenko explained. “And she mirrors whoever is in front of her. This means that there is nothing she cannot do. His power is limitless.”
Stunt coordinator Rob Inch told In Entertainment Weekly that Taskmaster’s versatile fighting style made him one of the more fun characters to work with during filming Kali Mai.
“There’s no catch to that fighting style,” said stunt coordinator Rob Inch. “There were no parameters – only our imagination.”
Olga Kurilenko’s Taskmaster Dress Was Extremely Hot and Heavy
On top of the fact that Kurilenko had to learn some complicated choreography, she had the added challenge of doing it all in extremely uncomfortable attire.
“The dress had a few layers, and the first layer was the muscle suit,” she said. “It’s just a suit that adds muscle, so you know, I look heavier and bigger. Fair enough, it’s Taskmaster. And then all these other layers and clips that went on,” she told the Associated Press. “In the end, it gets too heavy. It is also very hot, and yes, it is a long process. … it doesn’t make walking easier, so it’s even harder to walk in.”
