According to reports, Boris Johnson is taking a week off in Marbella.
He left the UK on Friday and is reportedly staying in a luxury villa in the Costa del Sol in southern Spain.
It was not clear whether his wife Carrie and son Wilfred were with him.
A Spanish police source told Mirror: “Officially we cannot confirm but unofficially he is in a large luxury villa on the border between Marbella and Benavis.
“We have been made aware that the British Prime Minister is staying and so we are all extra cautious. We know how important he is globally and how likely he is to be a target, so there are additional patrols in the next few days.
Downing Street has been contacted for comment.
The prime minister cut short his planned summer vacation in Somerset, just a day after the Taliban captured Kabul in August. He returned to the West shortly after the last of Britain’s soldiers left Afghanistan.
His stay in Scotland last summer almost ended in “catastrophe” when he was swept out to sea while paddle-boarding.
His 2019 winter vacation to the Caribbean brought him before the Commons Standards Committee because of a discrepancy in the way the trip was funded.
Spain was on the amber list for foreign travel until Monday when the traffic light system was scrapped. Fully vaccinated travelers now only need to be tested two days after returning to the UK.
