Boris Johnson pays tribute to Tory MP killed in stabbing

Prime Minister Boris Johnson has paid tribute to MP Sir David Ames as “one of the kindest, nicest, gentlest men in politics”.

Mr Johnson was speaking after returning to 10 Downing Street from a cabinet meeting in Bristol.

He said ministers were “deeply shocked and bewildered” to hear of the attack on Sir David, which took place as part of their special meeting to discuss the upcoming Cop26 climate change summit.

“I think all our hearts are filled with shock and sadness today at the passing of Sir David Ames MP, in surgery in his constituency at a church after nearly 40 years of continuous service to the people of Essex and across the United States. were killed in the Kingdom,” the Prime Minister said.

“And I think people are so shocked and saddened that above all, he was one of the kindest, nicest, most gentlemen in politics.
