A man has been arrested after a nine-year-old boy was crushed to death by a white van and killed in a horrific hit-and-run accident.
Immediately after 9.30 p.m. last night, emergency workers were dispatched to the scene in Keighley, West York.
Officers were told that a white van hit the boy and another pedestrian, who suffered minor injuries, before driving off.
Paramedics including air ambulance tried to save the youth, but he was declared brought dead on the spot.
A 49-year-old man later went to a police station in North Yorkshire and was arrested on suspicion of death by dangerous driving.
He remains in custody.
Detective Sergeant Fiona Allen of West Yorkshire Police’s Major Collision Inquiry Team said: “A nine-year-old boy has tragically lost his life and our top priority is to support his family and ensure that the incidents are thoroughly investigated.” be the cause of his death.
“The collision occurred on the border of West Yorkshire and North Yorkshire and we are keen to speak to anyone who has witnessed the collision or who believes they may have seen a van involved immediately before or after the incident.”
