Thomas Tuchel faced major injury concerns at key attackers Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner after the pair went limp against Malmö last night.

Lukaku’s right ankle injury cost the Blues a comprehensive victory over Sweden, while fellow attacker Werner suffered a hamstring strain.

Both are sure to miss Saturday’s clash against Norwich, while Tuchel raised the possibility of both being unavailable for a long time.

But despite the double injury blow, Tuchel has challenged other forwards in the team to take their chances in the absence of Lukaku and Werner.

‘So they’ll be out for a few days – a few matches,’ Tuchel said.

‘We are usually in a good place with an injury and only Christian Pulisic is out but we all miss that.

‘We have a lot of games, a lot of competitions. So now we have to deal and find the solution, no excuse will be accepted.

‘Both were in good shape and they have statistics that they are dangerous and can make and score so now we have to find a solution.

“Those who have waited for the opportunity have to go ahead and prove that they can do the same.

‘Whatever it is, the race is on and we have faith in the guys who will start against Norwich in the next game.

‘Let’s be positive. We have won matches without Romelu and Timo before. We don’t want these problems to happen again and again but during the season you can’t hide that these things happen.

Tuchel said before the game that Lukaku, who has no longer scored for seven Chelsea games, was suffering from mental fatigue.

But when asked if he regretted starting the £97.5million man last night, Tuchel replied: ‘If I had known (he would have been injured) I wouldn’t have done it before, but I would have done it. How could I know?’

On his team’s victory, Tuchel said: ‘We played with great intensity, we demanded it from us and we played an excellent 4-0 game. We were very happy.’

Meanwhile, Tuchel has confirmed Chelsea’s interest in Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland.

Haaland is likely to leave the Bundesliga before next summer due to a £64million release clause in his current contract.

The biggest club on the planet hopes to sign the young striker – and Tuchel has revealed Chelsea will be in the running.

“We have talked about Haland many times in the transfer window as well. It seemed unrealistic and it was not possible to do that,’ Tuchel revealed in an interview with SportBuild.

‘Let’s see what happens next week. Of course we talk about him regularly because he is a fantastic player and has a profile at Dortmund, which is a big opponent for us in the Champions League.
