Zagreb, Croatia – Croatian police said on Wednesday they had established the identity of a woman who was found in a remote area on the northern Adriatic island, who did not remember who she was or where she came from.
Police have identified the woman as 57-year-old Daniela Adamkova from Slovakia. He said his identity was established after several suggestions from Croatia and abroad.
Croatian media said the tip revealing her identity came from the United States where she lived until 2015 before moving to Ireland. She was reportedly a successful jewelry designer who became homeless.
The woman was discovered on September 12 on Krk Island, sitting on a jagged rock close to the sea in a remote part of the island where the bears lived.
Croatian media reported that the woman spoke in English but could not give her name. Reports said that he did not have an identity document or a cell phone.
Police had released a photograph which showed a white woman with blue eyes and a face covered in blood.
Croatian rescue services said the woman had spent a night by the sea and was found “exhausted and with mild injuries and disorientation”. The matter attracted attention both in Croatia and internationally.
The woman has since been shifted to a hospital in the city of Rijeka. Police described his condition as “stable” and said Croatian social services would take over after he was released from hospital care.
