Cynthia Erivo and Andy Serkis will star alongside Idris Elba in the much-anticipated Luther film on Netflix, which begins shooting this month, it was announced on Monday.
Idris, 49, will be in good company with widowed actress Cynthia Erivo, 34, and King Kong star Andy, 57, in the upcoming feature film written by series creator Neil Cross.
There have been five series of the BBC crime drama, the first of which aired back in 2010, and Idris previously expressed his desire to make a film there as well.

The streaming site said in a Facebook post on Monday, ‘Luther is back! Idris Elba will reprise his iconic role – joined by Cynthia Erivo and Andy Serkis – in a new feature film written by series creator Neil Cross.’
Fans commented on the exciting news of the addition of two new actors, with one writing: ‘Love Luthor especially now Andy Serkis is 2 of the top actors in it.’
Someone else said: ‘Oh my goddddddddd’ while a third said: ‘Best news ever!! Wonder if Alice will be back!’

Luther follows Idris’s character DCI John Luther – a passionate detective who befriends a psychopath and murderer whom he cannot arrest for lack of evidence – as they solve various cases together.
After the last series released in 2019, the star said that he felt that things were set perfectly for the film.
They told LADbible At the time: ‘When you make a movie bigger, you have to shape it up – that means taking it internationally to other regions, but I still think it’s like ‘Gotham City’ in London It will feel like But obviously, on a larger international scale, it can take us anywhere.
‘I am really ready for the film now. I am really ready for this. And I think this season is set to enhance it further.

“We’ve made different seasons, one season was six episodes, one was four – Luther’s adaptable.
‘I think if we can figure out a formula to keep the audience engaged for an hour and a half on a film, I think Luther certainly has the qualities to do that.’
Back in May Idris revealed that filming for the eagerly awaited film Luther would begin in September.
He confirmed that he is “very excited” to dive into the new project and is looking forward to a “boulder” storyline that will spread across the world.
He said Diversity On Friday: ‘We go into production, fingers crossed, in September.
‘I’m very excited about it, it’s been a long time coming. We are very close to drawing the green light on production.’
In another interview last month, Idris once again confirmed that a Luther film is “definitely coming”, while admitting his mother is still confident he will play James Bond.
The actor has been repeatedly linked to the iconic role after Daniel Craig confirmed that he would not return following the delayed release of No Time to Die – his sixth film as Bond.

But while Idris previously admitted that his chances of becoming the next 007 are slim, his mother, Eve, remains quietly optimistic.
He said on Capital Xtra: ‘The Luther movie is definitely coming, I’m so excited. To fans who have watched five seasons of Luther, I am indebted to him for taking it to the next level, and that’s where the film comes in.
