New York – Another man in India who lost a cobra on his wife recovering from a snakebite was sentenced to life imprisonment on Wednesday, reports various news outlets.
Suraj Kumar, 28, known as the ‘cobra killer’, was convicted of killing his 25-year-old wife with a cobra and snake in March 2020. He had denied the allegations.
Prosecutors reportedly called the shocking crimes “rare to rare” cases.
Kumar left a highly venomous Russell’s viper snake on his wife, which hospitalized her for two months. When Uthra Kumar recovered at his parents’ house, Sooraj threw a cobra at his sleeping wife, killing her.

Phone records show that Suraj Kumar was in contact with snake handlers and even watched snake videos on the internet before killing Uthra.
The officials were alerted by Uthra’s mother.
“The manner of execution and the diabolical plan to kill his wife Uthra, who was lying in bed, makes it (the case) rare to rare,” the public prosecutor told news outlets.
Prosecutors had sought the death penalty.

It was not clear how the husband had avenged his wife, but speculation in India revolves around the wealth of Uthra’s family. Her parents reportedly got suspicious when Sooraj tried to control her property after her death.
