video posted by Jane and Kyle Bethune, who adapted the 1983 Sliver Eagle bus to hit the road, and posted the video update on their page Red White & Bethune, subtitled “Showing America Through Our Lenses”.

“It’s in the Spread Creek scattered camping area. We got there and there was a lot of gravel there and we decided we wanted to try to drive more backwards because we heard the views were better here. So We were on our way back down this long dirt, gravel road,” Mr Bethune said of the video posted on Saturday night.

His wife continued: “And we came in a white van with a Florida plate, a little white van. We were about to stop and say hello because we’re also from Florida, but the van was completely dark. So we decided to continue on our way.”

Mr Bethune said the van appeared to be “abandoned”.

“We thought maybe they were hiking or they were just chilling inside, no doors were open, you know. You know, the Florida Plate, on the other side of the country, isn’t something we think about every day. Let’s see the time.”

While the exterior of the van looks similar to that of Ms. Petito’s camper, which was also captured in police body cam footage, a detail on the inside of the van also appears to match the transit the couple were traveling in – a body. The colored straw hat sat on the dashboard. A similar cap can also be seen on the dashboard of the couple’s van, when it was pulled down by the police on August 12.

Please don’t close the tip line with a single video. It’s in the hands of the right people. Thank you very much, that’s why we’re asking people to review old photos and videos.”
