Former Liverpool midfielder Dietmar Hamann has insisted that prophet Keita is ‘not good enough’ for Jurgen Klopp’s side and believes he was at fault for both Atletico Madrid goals on Tuesday night.

Keita scored the second goal of Liverpool’s game at the Wanda Metropolitano – a humiliating volley that propelled the Reds 2-0 in the Spanish capital.

But after his offensive heroics, Keita played a part in both Atletico goals as Diego Simeone’s team brought themselves back into the game before Mo Salah emerged victorious late.

At first, he was too weak and too slow to react to a small corner, causing Thomas Lemar to get along the byline and Antoine Griezmann to wreak havoc before going home from close range.

He was then very easily beaten by Joo Felix as he dribbling past Guinea and scoring a goal for Griezmann to take second place of the night.

Keita was brought out at half-time as Klopp introduced Fabinho, although the German insisted it was always his intention to bring him out after 45 minutes following the recent busy international schedule.

But Hyman, who played 283 matches for the Reds, was impressed by Keita’s performance and said he is simply ‘not good enough’ to play for Liverpool.

‘I must say, I think it was Keita’s fault for both goals,’ the former Germany manager told talkSPORT.

‘I know he’s got some injuries, but I don’t think he’s good enough for Liverpool.

‘If you score a goal like him, you have to be confident, you have to do your defensive duties and I think he just wants to play with the ball and that’s when Liverpool have got possession.

‘You just can’t do it and he’s not good enough to do it. The way he was beaten for the first two goals was very easy.

Klopp said after the match: ‘He played three games for Guinea and the last of the Premier League.

’45 minutes was right for him. I have spoken to him and it is all good.’

Hyman was also not impressed with Liverpool’s overall defense, with the Reds scoring 11 goals in 12 appearances in all competitions so far.

The German added: ‘Liverpool were pretty average defensively as they conceded two and the reason they stayed in the game was because they made two or three good saves, [Alisson] Baker was excellent again.

‘It’s something they have to address.

‘They won the Champions League and the Premier League when they were as good as anyone defensively, but on Tuesday they conceded opportunities and goals that were too easy.’
