Chief Public Health Officer Theresa Tam says Delta Edition is pushing the goalpost on the rate of vaccinations needed to reach herd immunity from COVID-19.
Dr. Tam previously said that she wants at least 80 percent of all age groups to be fully vaccinated as soon as possible so that they can fight the rise in cases of COVID-19.
On Friday she said the highly contagious Delta variant calls for higher vaccination rates to provide community protection from the virus.
Dr. Tam suggests that vaccination coverage may now need to be 80 percent for the entire population, as opposed to only those who qualify for the vaccine.
