“All my friends in the rap game say I’m soft because I’m in a wheelchair”
A writer on the 00s teen show Degrassi: The Next Generation revealed that Drake threatened legal action against the show, in which he co-starred over the story of the wheelchair.

The rapper appeared as Jimmy Brooks in the Canadian drama for seven seasons from 2001.
However, in a recent oral history of the show marking its 20th anniversary, writer James Hurst reported that the then actor took legal action after his character was injured in a wheelchair.
“There Was A Letter From A Law Firm In Toronto, And It Was From Aubrey” [Graham, aka Drake], said Hurst AV Club.
“It Was A Strange Letter That Said, “Aubrey Graham Won’t Be Back” Degrassi Season six as Jimmy Brooks until his injury heals, and he is out of a wheelchair. “
The writer called on Drake to get to the root of the issue.
He’s like, “All my friends at the rap game say I’m soft because I’m in a wheelchair.” And I said, “Okay, tell your friends at the rap game you got shot. How hard can you go? You got shot, and you’re in a wheelchair,” Hurst explained.
He further stated that the issue was resolved quickly, with Drake holding back from taking further action.
“I said, “Aubrey, there’s some kid somewhere in a wheelchair, completely ignored, who’s never been on television, never represented.” I want you to represent this person. You The show has the coolest kids, and you could say there’s nothing wrong with being in a wheelchair.”
Meanwhile co-star Lauren Collins expressed sympathy for Drake in the same article.
“I feel [Aubrey] Maybe he was struggling with the idea that he was one of two black characters on the show, and he was the one who was shot and in a wheelchair, which is obviously part of a much bigger conversation,” she said.
