Federal Judge Emmett Sullivan, who oversees the controversial politically charged case of former National Security Advisor Michael Flynn, is retiring from a full-time position in a DC-based court.

He Will assume senior position in April, meaning he will have a lower case schedule.

The 73-year-old Sullivan settled separate cases with Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump.

President Biden will name his replacement in high-profile district court after his retirement.

He A local DC judge was previously appointed by President Reagan and named to his current position by President Clinton.

Sullivan was criticized by the Trump Justice Department, who did not immediately accept the department’s decision to drop charges against Flynn, who pleaded guilty twice to lying to the FBI about his contacts with Russian officials.

Sullivan eventually allowed the DOJ to drop the charges and Trump later pardoned Flynn.
