“The product is really, now, the Google Phone,” said Rick Osterloh, Google’s head of hardware, “so we’re prepared to invest a lot in marketing and growth we want to see.”

The phone was officially revealed by Google at the beginning of the month, but many details about the devices have been leaked ahead of time.

Google has officially said that the Pro version of the new Pixel 6 will have three camera lenses, including a telephoto lens with four times the optical zoom, while the standard Pixel 6 will only have two lenses – both of which are likely to be the main one. Wide-angle camera and an ultra-wide camera. Rumors suggest that the sensors can pick up 150 percent more light than the Pixel 5.

Both phones have Google’s Tensor chip, a chip built specifically for devices that allows artificial intelligence and machine learning to run directly on the phone – powering tools like Google Translate or Google Lens.

The Tensor chip will also provide greater camera capability, as the lens will capture multiple photos of the same moment and combine them into a single image. This theoretically allows the phone to adjust a scene to keep details sharp when photographing something in motion or to ensure a natural balance between light and shadow.

Also along with the Tensor chip, the phone will have a new Titan M2 chip for better security on the device. Leaked listing from Carphone Warehouse, and Google will provide five years of security updates for the device.

some media Access to the devices was provided by Google ahead of time, which reveals that the Pixel 6 Pro will feature a 6.7-inch QHD+ display with a 120Hz refresh rate. In contrast, the regular Pixel 6 will feature a 6.4-inch FHD+ display with a 90Hz refresh rate. Unlike the sensor on the back of the device for the Pixel 5, both phones will feature under-screen fingerprint scanning.

Other leaks include the battery, which clocks in at 4614mAh for the Pixel 6 and 5003mAh for the Pixel 6 Pro – the latter being almost the same as Samsung’s Galaxy S21 device.

The software for Google’s new Pixel devices is well documented, as Android 12 is already available for previous Pixel phones (and Google says there will be more device-specific updates to the operating system to come).

The main focus of this iteration is the ‘Material U’ design, which will update the widget and button palette to match the colors in the background image of the phone. Google has also built in notifications and quick-setting functions that appear when users move more rounded and larger down from the top of the screen.

Widgets have been a part of Android for a long time, and most recently were garnered more attention by Apple’s addition of iOS 14 last year, but whether they’ll be used here remains to be seen. Google’s own widgets, such as the memory function for Calendar or Photos, are either too small to be useful compared to having more apps on the home screen, or require extra curation, as is the case with Photos.

Other changes are also lacking: smart home controls are no longer in the power menu, but have their own button on the lock screen with Google Pay, and there are rumors that future updates will bring more features like better multitasking — but that remains to be seen.

The price of the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro for the devices has not been disclosed, but it could be around $1000, or £1000 to compete with the premium phones. Finally, according to rumours, Google is ready to announce a foldable phone, but knowledge of that device is scarce.
