Speculation about Brian Laundry’s whereabouts has circulated online for weeks, with wannabe-sleuths placing him in Mexico, Canada, at least four states, and buried in a bunker beneath his parents’ back garden .
Mr. Laundry is a man interested in the disappearance and death of his girlfriend, Gabby Petito. He returned home from a cross country road trip without her and refused to speak to the police, after which he disappeared.
While social media Sherlock theories about Mr. Laundry’s location online, North Port Police – and later the FBI – remained focused on their search of the T Mabry Carlton, Jr. Memorial Reserve, north of Mr. Laundry’s home in North Port. There is a huge swampland. , Florida.
According to Mr. Laundry’s parents, he often hiked the reserve and spent a good deal of his time on trails in protected forests and swamps. On September 17, six days after Ms. Petito was reported missing, Chris and Roberta Laundry – Brian’s parents – reported her missing.
He initially claimed that he left the house on 14 September for hiking at Carlton Preserve. It was later revealed that Mr Laundry had actually left the house on 13 September. North Port Police found Mr. Laundry’s Silver Mustang parked in the Preserve, and has been searching for it in the marshes ever since.
Carlton Reserve is a hard place to find. It covers more than 24,500 acres, much of which is inhospitable marshland that frequently floods. Crocodiles, venomous snakes, and other miscellaneous creatures inhabit the nature preserve, which North Port Police claim is “75 percent underwater.”
The reserve also abuts the Mayakka River State Park. A 12-mile trail within the reserve leads directly into the park, which lies to the north of the reserve, meaning Mr Laundry – if he is in the area – can be anywhere within the vast boundaries of the natural area.
Laundry’s parents believe the “only place” he can hide is Carlton Reserve, despite various reports of Mr. Laundry being placed on the Appalachian Trail in Alabama, Ohio, Tennessee and North Carolina. is within.
The family’s attorney, Steven Bertolino, told CNN he had no other guesses about his location.
“They don’t believe he is in another area,” he said. “They believe he is protected.”
The current search at Preserve is being conducted by the FBI, and it appears they share that they have taken laundry suggestions to heart. From the day Mr Laundry went missing, police searched the swamp looking for any signs of the man.
There were no searches for more than two weeks – at least none that were released to the public – despite police searching the area using airboats, swamp buggies, divers, drones and dog teams.
By the end of last week, the search operation at Carlton Preserve had been reduced, with only a small police presence remaining in the swamp. On Wednesday, however, police activity at the reserve increased, with several law enforcement teams searching the area, including the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office. A fresh campsite was found in the reserve, which may have been built by Mr. Laundry.
Later Wednesday night it was revealed that Mr Laundry’s father Chris had been asked by law enforcement to join them in their search for Wednesday, but he was unable to do so. Instead, he joined law enforcement on Thursday morning, driving to the preserve at around 10.30, where he was taken to the interior of the swamp.
The large laundry left the protected area just before 2.00 pm.
FBI updates on Mr. Laundry’s search have been virtually non-existent since mid-September, so the details of the larger laundry’s involvement may not be known to the public for some time.
