Meanwhile, many are keen to move to Spain, with Alicante, Málaga, Palma and Barcelona coming in the top ten hotspots booked in the past two weeks.

Trips to Alicante were found to be 61 percent cheaper than two years earlier, with an average seat price of £102.

Málaga and Antalya are also popular destinations with return seats averaging £95 and £179 respectively.

This is 67 per cent and 64 per cent cheaper than the October half-term in 2019.

Other heavily booked destinations include Dublin, Amsterdam, Faroe, Canary Islands, Cyprus, Rome, Malta and the Algarve.

Skyscanner’s Gavin Harris said: ‘For those booking the half-period break, there are tons of great deals out there right now. Even the most popular destinations are on average cheaper at the moment than before the pandemic.

‘Travelers looking further afield than the most popular locations will find the best deals at the lowest prices with some of the less obvious destinations.

“The booking volume is increasing as a result of the recent relaxation in travel rules and we expect this to continue to increase as we get closer to the school holiday.”

Prices may fluctuate as a result of increasing supply to meet demand, but many providers have vowed to make travel accessible to all and are keeping prices low to compete for bookings.

‘Even if prices go up, for many destinations it may still be a better deal for your travels than it was pre-pandemic.’
