The French designer said he has so far hid his injuries from the public because of his own insecurities.

“I’ve done everything I can to hide this story from as many people as possible and try to keep it a secret with my teams and friends for a very long time,” he said.

“To be honest, I’m not really sure why I was so embarrassed, perhaps this obsession with the perfection that fashion is known for and my own insecurities…

“As I recovered, I worked day and night to forget and create all my collections, trying to dream up the world with my collections as well as face masks, turtlenecks, long sleeves and even face masks. That hid marks with many rings. My fingers through many interviews or photoshoots.

“I realized how blessed I really am and I thank God every day of my life.”

Rousteing took up his position as creative director of Balmain in 2011 at the age of just 25.
