OTTAWA / TORONTO — In an effort to elect enough MPs to form the government, each seat matters for its own reasons. But there are also some that receive notable interest because of their implications for the region, the widespread momentum the party is gaining, or because of the big names on the ballot.
Many of the rides we’ve compiled for you have a compelling story.
The West Vancouver-Sunshine Coast-B.C. ride of the Sea to Sky Country is where the NDP puts forward a candidate with major star power. Documentary filmmaker and climate activist Avi Lewis, who has the support of US Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, will seek to dislodge liberals who have occupied the region since 2015.
And in Fredericton, NB, voters will decide whether their loyalty is more behind that of Jenika Atwin, who was voted Green MP in 2019, or the party she once represented. Atwin is running under the Liberal tent again.
This is not an exhaustive list, but rather a snapshot of some of the more compelling races that could be the nail-biter of a federal election.
