Police say several people have been killed and others injured by a man attacked with a bow and arrow in the Norwegian city of Kongsberg.

The suspect was captured after Wednesday night’s attack in a town 50 miles southwest of the nation’s capital Oslo.

Police chief Ovind Aas said, “The man has been arrested… Now from the information we have, this man single-handedly carried out these acts.”

“Many people have been injured and many have died.”

He said there were “multiple crime scenes”, but did not confirm the exact number of people killed or injured in the attack in the city of 28,000 residents.

The ministry said Norway’s Minister of Justice and Public Security, Monica Mland, had received an update about the attacks and was monitoring the situation closely.

Norway gave weapons to all police officers after the attack

The country’s police directorate said it had immediately authorized all officers, who are usually unarmed, to arm themselves.
