Food prices to be hit with terrifying rise, warns industry body boss

chief executive of the Food and Beverage Association Ian Wright said inflation The hospitality sector was running between 14% and 18%.

The boss of the trade body has told ministers on the BEIS committee that there is a need to consider the “horrific” rise in inflation amid the ongoing supply chain disruption in the UK.


“The committee really needs to think seriously about inflation,” he said.

“In hospitality, inflation is running between 14% to 18%, which is terrible.

“If the prime minister, as I know him, is serious about raising the bar, inflation is a bigger curse than almost anything because it discriminates against the poor.”

The chief executive of the Food and Drink Federation assured that Britain would not run out of food.

However, Mr Wright acknowledged there was some shortage as seen on shelves in supermarkets.

He said: “We are not running out of food, but there are some shortages, we have seen some problems with pigs and poultry, some of which have been resolved.”
