Longtime New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick has a reputation for wanting to do things his way, which includes not being late for anything, no matter what the excuse.

Former Patriots lineman Rich Ohrnberger found himself in a predicament and knew he would be late for practice because he had fallen asleep.

“I woke up, my phone died overnight, and I realized I was waking up to the sound of birds chirping and my alarm wouldn’t go off,” Ohrnberger said on his radio show:“The Hartman and Rich O Show.” “I’m frantic. I don’t even bother to look at the clock, I know I’m late.”

“I’m officially five minutes late, and I’ve got a 15-minute drive ahead of me,” he said. “I’m about to be 10 minutes late for this day. I have this sinking feeling in my stomach, ‘I’m about to be cut. [Belichick’s] I’m not going to be on this football team tomorrow. What shall I do?'”

But instead of trying and fearing to be released, Ohrnberger, who was drafted by the Patriots in the fourth round of the 2009 NFL Draft and played there until 2011, did what any non-rational human would do: he played a little fender. Decided to keep -Bender.

“I see a church van in front of me that’s all over and it has black smoke coming out of the exhaust pipe and I’m like, ‘I’m gonna kill this car,'” Ohrnberger says. “It’s better to pay insurance than to embarrass yourself by being late for a Patriots team meeting.”

So Ohrnberger rear-ended another vehicle, claiming that he “didn’t hit him hard” and made sure to get proof of the accident, in case anyone asked about his retardation.

Ohrnberger says he paid the elderly man in another vehicle and terminated his job.
