Why is it called the Harvest Moon?

All full moons have nicknames, usually related to the time of year they appear.

The Harvest Moon is the term given to the full moon that appears closest to the autumnal equinox, the point after which daylight starts to decrease for those of us in the Northern Hemisphere.

It is named after its connection to the farmers.

NASA said: “As the full moon closest to the autumnal equinox (end of summer and beginning of fall), it is the Harvest Moon.

“During the harvest season, farmers sometimes have to work late at night under the light of the moon.

“The full moon rises an average of 50 minutes later each night, but for some nights around the Harvest Moon, the Moon rises at roughly the same time: only 25 to 30 minutes later in North America, and only 10 to 20 minutes later in Canada and Canada. To the north in Europe.

“The Harvest Moon is an Old European name with the Oxford English Dictionary giving 1706 as the year of its first published use. Most of the years the Harvest Moon falls in September but it is one of the years that falls in October. “

A full moon occurs when the entire side of the moon that faces the Earth is illuminated by rays.

The Harvest Moon is one of 13 full moons to beautify our skies in 2021.
