A structure fire that sent massive plumes of black smoke looming over West Kelowna, BC on Sunday afternoon engulfed a garage, damaging nearby homes.
Assistant Fire Chief Brent Watson said raging flames and heat from the burning garage, which was filled with tires, electronics and motorcycles, ignited an adjacent car, setting two travel trailers and the sides of a shed on fire, And melted down the siding of the two. neighboring house.
The primary residence was also damaged by siding, yard furniture and ornamental trees, but survived.
The fire broke out at Kshitij Drive at around 3:00 pm
“We extended the lines to the back of the structure, where we found a garage on fire, completely covered and also a car inside. We were able to finish it very quickly,” he told Granthshala News.
Footage from the scene shows a charred passenger vehicle lowered into its shell and the charred, black frame of a garage.
Watson said the cause of the fire was being investigated, but it was not being treated as suspicious.
“It is likely electrical in nature,” he said.
“There was a lot of fuel in there, so it would emit a lot of black smoke,” he said.
Watson said the results could have been worse given the densely populated area.
“In a development like this where homes are fairly close together, it’s imperative that we get here early, which is what we did today, and prevent any further damage.”
No one got injured.
