According to James Gunn “incredibly subjective and admittedly often odd opinions”
Guardians of the Galaxy Director James Gunn has teased that the upcoming “Holiday Special” will introduce a legendary character from the Marvel Cinematic Universe into the film series.

The special is set to release on Disney+ next year, and will set up some events for the third volume of Guardians of the Galaxy, currently expected to arrive in 2023.
Posting on Twitter, Gunn wrote: “In my incredibly subjective and admittedly often odd opinion, we will be introducing one of the greatest MCU characters of all time.”

Fans immediately began speculating as to who the previously undiscovered character might be, with Gunn responding to shoot suggestions including Howard the Duck and “Longshot played by Limahal from Kazagoooo”.
special is a sequel to the original two Guardians of the Galaxy movies – side by side Avengers: Infinity War, avengers: endgame, and upcoming Thor: Love and Thunder – and a prequel two Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
The 55-year-old director also confirmed in the comments that the new release will take the form of a TV special, and will be available to watch in time for Christmas 2022.
Gunn said last year that Volume. 3 “Probably” will be his last as a director.
Asked by a fan on Instagram (via) screen rent) Whether the next film will be “Aakhri Wali” or there could be more in the future, Gunn said it will be his swan song with the franchise.
“This is probably my last, and probably the last with the current team,” he replied. “but you never know!”
Gunn also confirmed that a character would die in it. Volume. 3, responding to a fan: “I can’t remember any comic book movies where no one died!”
