This will soon be the final straw for single-use plastic items in Guelph, Ont.
The council passed a bylaw on Wednesday that would be in line with federal rules passed in June.
Starting January 1, 2023, all plastic shopping bags and polystyrene foam containers will be phased out.
The manufacture and import of single-use plastic straws will be effective from December 20 this year and will not be for sale until December 20, 2023.

No plastic cutlery will be sold till December 20, 2023.
The resolution passed by the council will also instruct employees to educate residents and business through this transition.
