Adil Akhtar won the Best Actor award at the ceremony defeating James Norton, Stephen Graham, Riz Ahmed and Jude Law.

Gugu presented the recycled plastic award to 41-year-old Akhtar, who said he was ‘nervous’ but wanted to thank the ‘cast and crew’ of the film Ali and Ava.

Luther star Ruth Wilson presented the award for best successful performance to Sweetheart’s Nell Barlow, who could not be at the ceremony to receive his award.

He later received his own award for Best Success Producer, stating: ‘The film was made on a lot of love and a £10 note.’

Samuel Edwunmi, who presented the award for Successful Producer, said: ‘Shout out to Befa, did you know that these awards are made from recycled plastic.’
