Graeme Souness has insisted that Gareth Southgate should include Trent Alexander-Arnold in his World Cup squad as he can provide offensive qualities for England.

He also failed to get off the bench in Friday’s 1-0 loss to Italy, suggesting much that the Three Lions boss just doesn’t have the thinking he wants.
It has so far proved to be a difficult season at club level for Alexander-Arnold, who has drawn criticism for his defensive performances in Liverpool’s defeats against Man United and Napoli.
Trent Alexander-Arnold has been left out of Gareth Southgate’s matchday squad for England’s clash with Germany on Monday night
But SportsMail columnist Graeme Souness is adamant that he must go to the World Cup
But Souness is adamant that the 23-year-old can still bring a lot to the table for England, urging Southgate to include him in their World Cup squad because ‘what he gives up front far outweighs his weaknesses’ It happens’.
‘With Trent, he has so much quality when it comes to the last third,’ sportsmail the columnist said talkSPORT, ‘He’s the most amazing kicker of a ball, he pings those crosses at flat, fast pace, getting to the sweet spot in the center of the goal where he wants to.

Liverpool defender’s chances of participating in the World Cup are increasingly dwindling
But Souness insisted that Alexander-Arnold should be included in Southgate’s squad as he could bring attacking qualities to England.
‘Yes, he has his shortcomings when it comes to defense, but he goes beyond what he gives.
‘ Having said that, I think tournament football requires you to start a game, believing that you will play the best in the team you are playing against, so in that sense you start with someone who is Who’s a better defender – but you have to add Trent to your World Cup squad. You have included it.
‘A simple way to put it would be that if you’re chasing a game, he’s your man. If you’re reaching the last 15/20 minutes and you’re holding onto something, I don’t think you’d introduce Trent in that position.
‘But of course when you want to achieve a goal he is your man. He has the most incredible qualities when you come to that last third.’
Alexander-Arnold was not the only high-profile name missing from England’s squad on Monday, with AC Milan defender Fikayo Tomori, West Ham winger Jarrod Bowen and Southampton midfielder James Ward-Pruce also dropped.
But the Liverpool star’s omission means he will be able to play only five of England’s 31 matches until the World Cup, showing his distance from Southgate’s plans.
