Researchers found that two skin cancer detection apps — not named for legal reasons — identified rare and aggressive cancers at low risk.

Working from users’ photos, the apps issue an alert if they identify a possible sign of skin cancer, such as an unusual mole or discolored spots.

Research has shown that the apps, which boast a detection rate of 95 percent, classify some one-fifth of cancers as benign and not as malignant, such as amelanotic melanoma and Merkel cell carcinoma.

Blackcurrant Ease Gym Pain

One study suggests that blackcurrant can relieve post-workout muscle soreness.

Research from the University of Surrey showed that black currant reduced muscle soreness by half in people who frequently exercised vigorously.

The study involved men and women undergoing eight days of intense exercise, which included movements to build muscle — known as resistance training.

Half of the participants took a 300mg capsule of concentrated blackcurrant daily, while half did not. They then graded their muscle pain over four days. The blackcurrant group saw their muscle pain subside three times faster than those who didn’t take the pill.

Scientists say blackcurrants were rich in anthocyanins, a natural compound shown to reduce inflammation.

A survey has found that prejudice against people with schizophrenia is rampant. Nearly half of 1,500 respondents to a national survey did not allow someone with schizophrenia to care for their children.

According to a survey by the charity Asomer Foundation, a third would not want a schizophrenic to become a medical doctor, and a tenth would not want them as a friend or neighbor.

Schizophrenia is a serious, long-term mental health condition in which sufferers struggle to separate their own thoughts from reality.

However, patients receiving treatment — medication and psychological therapy — are able to lead healthy, stable lives.

Doctors can now diagnose life-threatening brain and head injuries near a patient’s bedside, thanks to the Swoop, Britain’s first portable MRI scanner.

Typically MRI scanners, which use magnetic fields and radio waves to create detailed images that can show tumors or traumatic injuries in the brain, are so large they require their own dedicated rooms.

Dr Khan Siddiqui of Hyperfine, the medical tech firm behind Swoop, which produces a lower level of radiation than larger MRI scanners, says patients can get scan results within 90 minutes.
