A hostage situation in Edmonton begins when a man allegedly on the run from a bank robbery, the lone hostage is released, and the suspect is found dead.

Police said late Monday that the man had broken into a house on the north side of the city that was “not connected to him” and took an unknown number of hostages.

He said the bank robbery happened several blocks away.
