Touching on how they were feeling, Lorraine asked: ‘She was worried about you. Because Abi, aren’t you the only one?

Alana said of her young daughter: ‘Leela loves it and she keeps telling everyone in the woods her grandmother and she is brave because she befriended a snake.’

Arlene was close to leaving the show after just three days at the palace, admitting Wednesday night that she was ‘nervous’ about the merger of the two teams.

The professional dancer revealed to The Telegraph: ‘I was too nervous to go into the main camp and what was inside was a bunch of people, so I felt very emotional to be welcomed.’

Arlene was at The Clink with Naughty Boy, Richard Madley, David Ginola and Danny Miller for the first three days of competition.

She was wary about joining Kadina Cox, Frankie Bridges, Matty Lee, Snooki Shai and Louise Minchin in the main camp, as they were forced to sleep on the floor while enjoying comparable luxuries.

And her concerns were echoed by Richard, who said: ‘I thought there might be a little friction in the beginning because we’ve been down all the time and they’ve come here at our expense.

‘So the warmth and welcome they gave us was a relief and all that potential rivalry just flew away.’
