Icelandic songwriter Prince Polo died of cancer at the age of 45.

Polo, whose real name was Svar Petur Einstein, was diagnosed with stage four cancer in 2018. [via Iceland Review], His death was announced last Thursday (29 September).

Eysteinsson’s final music release was a joint EP with SH Draumur called ‘Sjoppan’, which was shared in September. His latest Prince Polo album, ‘Falsker Minninger’, was released in 2020. reported that before going solo under the name Prince Polo, Einstein played in bands including Moldric, Ronk and Schackmanage during his career.

“Posters with the text of their songs have become popular in homes and cafes around Iceland, as have they made and marketed under the names bulsur (grain-based sausage) and bop (like popcorn, except Icelandic barley). ”, the publication added.

Svar Petur and his wife, Berglind Hstler, ran housing and cultural operations in the Karlsstaer in Berufjörur. He leaves behind three children: Hrolfur Stein, Aldis Ron and Elisa.

Tributes have been sent to the memory of the late musician, including at the lendingdagurin (Icelandic Festival of Manitoba). Festival organizers wrote: “‘Lief ertu a grinast’, ‘Life, are you kidding me?’ Very sorry to hear of the passing of our friend @Prinspolo, we have the honor of hosting him at Islendingdagurin this year and we will cherish the memories and music behind him.”

A fan on Twitter wrote: “RIP Svavar. A prince among men. Truly sad day for Icelandic and Icelandic music”, while another said: “Svar Petur was a unique artist. Condolences to family and friends.”

Elsewhere, Hraldur Thorleifsson of Icelandic Acts wrote: “Svar was supposed to come to my house for karaoke on Saturday. He was the first to do stand-up. He had all kinds of plans. Now we have to laugh and sing and make and play for dear prince. ,

He then shared a video of Polo performing his song ‘Paris Norursins’, which was filmed live at the Keks Hostel in Reykjavik during Iceland Airwaves 2014.
