Bertolino said Laundry’s parents, Chris and Roberta Laundry, informed the FBI and North Port Police Department on Tuesday night that they intended to come to the park looking for him on Wednesday morning. He said law enforcement met him on Wednesday morning.

Bertolino said that after a “brief search” performed repeatedly by a test laundry, the family and law enforcement found “some articles” related to him. He would not give any further details about what and how many items were found.

Bertolino said law enforcement is now investigating that area more thoroughly.

North Port Police “respectfully declines to comment.”

The discovery comes amid an extensive search for the whereabouts of the laundry that has now gone on for over a month.

About two months ago, Petito, 22, went missing while she and Laundry, 23, were on a road trip around the western US, documenting their trip on social media. Laundry returned to his home in North Point, Florida, where he lived with his parents without Pettito on September 1.

Not getting in touch with him, Petito’s family reported him missing 10 days later. Laundry refused to cooperate with the investigation of his whereabouts, and soon after, he also went missing, and his family told investigators they believed he had gone to a nearby nature reserve.

Pettito’s remains were found on September 19 in a national forest in Wyoming, where the couple was last seen together. Teton County Coroner Dr. Brent Blue has ruled that he died of strangulation.
Laundry is not clearly linked to Pettito’s murder, but is the subject of a federal arrest warrant for unauthorized use of another person’s debit card in the days after Pettito last spoke with his family.
