Liam Payne has hinted that talks for a One Direction reunion will happen ‘sooner than later’.
The singer, who performed at the star-studded charity concert for The Wanted’s Tom Parker on Monday, revealed that he spoke to his former bandmate Louis Tomlinson about the band’s future.
Since One Direction’s hiatus in 2016, fans have been calling for the group to reunite, and many were disappointed they didn’t get together for the band’s 10th anniversary in 2020.
Will it happen: Liam Payne has hinted talks for One Direction reunion will happen ‘sooner than later’, as he did at Tom Parker’s Inside My Head concert on Monday
When asked about whether a 1D reunion could be on the cards, Liam said Mirror: ‘I talked to Louis about it and we were saying it should happen as soon as possible.’
Liam joined a star-studded lineup that took to the stage at the Royal Albert Hall to assist Stand Up Cancer for Tom Parker’s Inside My Head, following the singer’s diagnosis of an inoperable brain tumor.
Since 1D began their hiatus, Liam, Louis, Harry Styles and Niall Horan have pursued solo careers, but fans have repeatedly called for the group to rejoin.

In June, Simon Cowell claimed that 11 years after making him on The X Factor, he could get the group to perform together again.
They told Mirror: ‘I think it will happen. If they get together, be it re-recording or touring, it will be the most amazing thing.’
After Zayn Malik split from the group in 2015, the remaining members, Harry, Niall, Liam and Louis, recorded a fifth album before announcing an indefinite break in 2016.
Simon continued: ‘If I can walk into a room with them and just say, “You know what, whether it’s six months or something, I think you’re going to have such a great time” – Maybe I can convince them.

In May, Niall said that talks for a reunion had stalled, saying on The Jonathan Ross Show that he wouldn’t want to do it unless everyone was fully involved and everyone was about the same. It would be difficult to have an opinion.
Asked if the group would reform, Niall replied: ‘I don’t know… nobody really talks about it. Still talk to him all the time.
‘Some of them are small children. Everyone has their own success. I am enjoying what I am doing.
He said: ‘Of course, if everyone wants to do it, I’ll be up for it… you all need to be in the same room and chat, but I don’t know when that will happen…
‘It’s always hard to have the same opinion. I don’t want to do it unless everyone is completely inside. I don’t want to half force anyone to do this.’

Fans had hoped that One Direction would reunite in 2020 to mark the band’s 10th anniversary, but these plans were canceled by the COVID pandemic.
Instead the band celebrated their anniversary by launching a celebration website, with a special video made for their fans.
Liam has previously stated that reuniting with his former bandmates still ‘seemed very hopeful’.
Speaking to People Magazine, he said the band was ‘in the middle’ [figuring out] What to do’ to mark their anniversary.
The Strip That Down singer said, “Obviously, we know it’s a huge anniversary and we definitely want to do something.” ‘I mean, it’s a tough one. I cannot promise any reunion plan as it is not there yet.’
